Mmmmm....Toasty.

Today my son and I went grocery shopping together. While we were there we had a long talk about my shopping habits. The following is his interview with me.

B: So hey mom, what kind of shopper are you?
Me: Well... I guess I'm an organized shopper, I tend to meal plan for the month or week and then make a list for the week and month and then make lists so I get what I need to.

B: So What goes through your mind as you approach the frozen food section?
Me: Gosh...probably "what tasty things would your dad like and do we have enough HotPockets to keep him happy !"

B: Oh funny  mom.  Is buying New York Brand Texas Toast something you plan or is it spontaneous? What triggers the thought to buy it?
Me: Meh...I guess I prefer their Texas Toast over Giant Eagle brand and I try to buy it when it's on sale.  But since I'm a meal planner, I tend to just buy it when I know we're going to be having something that requires it.

B: Well, mom how do you feel when you look at the section and selection of Texas Toast?  How would you describe it if I hadn’t seen it? What stands out that gets your attention?
Me: It seems like there are a lot more NY Brands in stock and there's kind of a wall of green and yellow packaging. Giant Eagle Brand and Pepperidge Farm brand are in there...but not front and center like the NY Brand. There's a lot of bright green and yellow and that definitely gets my attention. They have the best packaging.

B: Since you meal plan to keep impulse buys down what besides price draws you to one brand, type or flavor versus others?
Me: Oh probably the packaging. Thanks for noticing that I try to save money by mealplanning. It's nice of you to pay attention.

B: No problem mom,  I know I go through diapers like it's my job. So, how do you decide what to put in the cart? What do you notice, see and feel when you are in the section shopping.
Me: Not gonna lie...I'm wondering if I should buy ice cream.  Im usually thinking about whether I should get the rest of the frozen foods while I still have other stuff to buy... I don't want them to melt. I'm not that observant of my freezer sectioning. I just wish the freezer section wasnt in the middle of the store. It doesn't go with my 'order.' Plus...I'm generally hoping that we'll make it through the rest of the shopping trip without a trip to the diaper station :-)

B: So tell me about why you try to make sure that we all sit down and eat together several times a week?
Me: Well, when I was growing up, meal time is where we talked and stuff...so I want you and your daddy and I to have that same experience.  I like hearing how your day was and telling you about mine.  The table's where we can all come together. It's hard when we're busy...but I like to make sure we have a good meal at the table at least a couple times a week. It should feel comfortable and warm and welcoming!

B: It does! I sure wish I could eat Texas Toast! These pureed veggies are getting old.
Me: Yeah...I wish you could too. Clean up would be easier!

B:How does Texas Toast get on your menu? What are the triggers that make you consider serving it?
Me: Well, your dad REALLY loves Texas Toast and Spaghetti so I try to make sure that we have it at least once a month although he would probably like it once a week.  I usually try to make spaghetti on the days that I know we're going to be getting home late or we have a bunch of stuff to do. If we dont have Texas Toast we'll usually just eat Spaghetti anyway.
B: Good idea!
Me: Thanks :)
B: I love the look on dad's face when he sees a plate of sghetti and Texas Toast
Me: Yeah, he's pretty funny.

B: What role does Texas Toast have in your meals?
Me: Oh...I think it's probably part of the supporting cast of characters. You go to see the star, but without the rest of the cast it's kind of boring.
B: How does serving Texas Toast make you feel?
Me: Ummm.....I guess it makes me feel happy that I can make something easily that makes you guys so happy!

B: What are some of the recipes that you can't wait to make for me?
Me: Definitely spaghetti and meatballs, fettucine alfredo or chili spaghetti with Texas Toast as a side.  OR I like to make potroast and mashed potatos and put it on top of Texas Toast like an open faced sandwich.  And I'm really hoping you'll like tomatos and artichokes more than your dad so I can make bruschetta with Texas Toast! Eating Texas Toast is like crunching into deliciousness!
B: Can I try some?

This was fun!!! Thanks!!
